Announcing the blast off of a new club for our MARS seniors named PACESETTERS.
The primary purpose of Pacesetters is to provide a social club for MARS Associates senior members (75+) to share life experiences, camaraderie, meals, books, etc. via email interactions, “Zoom” like calls, and periodic lunch gatherings. Members are not required to pay additional dues beyond those of MARS Associates members.

1. November 13, Wednesday 11:00am, Landsdowne Arms
Subject: “Blue Zones”. A blue zone is a region in the world where people are claimed to have long lives beyond the age of 80 due to a lifestyle combining physical activity, low stress, rich social interactions, a local whole-foods diet, and low disease incidence. The research concentrated on areas of the world where people lived long (>100) healthy lives. .
Speaker: Gene Dionne. Gene is highly respected in the world of space technology and has traveled widely. He was a vice president of the Defense Systems Product Area for Lockheed Martin.

October 9, 2024: Beth Buck presentation on OSIRIS Rex (now OSIRIS APEx), Landsdowne Arms
Speaker: Former Deep Space Mission Operations Program Manager, Beth Buck, oversaw multiple spacecraft missions exploring our solar system and beyond. She shared how the OSIRIS REx (now OSIRIS APEx) used new technology to “TAG” an asteroid that was full of surprises and then brought back a sample that scientists are currently analyzing.

September 18, 2024: Matt Grogan presentation on Apollo 12, Landsdowne Arms
Speaker: Matt Grogan, a NASA Manned Spacecraft Center employee at that time, participated in the Apollo operations from Apollo 8 to 15 will describe the lunar features and guidance changes from Apollo 11 that made the Apollo 12 pinpoint landing possible and necessary for the accomplishment of NASA’s science objectives. Matt came to Martin Marietta in 1971 after Apollo 15 to participate in the Viking Program and later NASA and military programs

August 14, 2024: Janet Kester talk on Joy, Landsdowne Arms
Speaker: Janet Kester. Janet is a retired special education teacher who tried to bring as much joy as possible to her students as they struggled with the academic world. She is involved with DU’s OLLI program where she teaches the “JOY” course.

July 10, 2024: Cardiac Health Lecture & Q&A at Landsdowne Arms.
Speaker: Dr. Mark Sheehan. Dr. Sheehan is known as “The Mr. Cardiac Doctor of Denver”. He is now retired and very involved in voluntary work to third world countries.
