Central City Opera 2024

MARS Associates Members: We are going to go to the Central City Opera again this summer. Those who went last year had a great time. We have selected The Pirates of Penzance as the performance we are going to attend. We will get tickets for the Matinee performance on Wednesday, July 24 at 2:00 PM.

Set against the backdrop of Cornwall’s coastline, The Pirates of Penzance is a comedic operetta that revolves around a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates due to a communication mix-up. As he completes his term with the pirates, he yearns for love and an honorable life. After humorous encounters with a group of young women and a crafty ruse involving the pirates’ soft spot for orphans, a surprising revelation about the young man’s true apprenticeship commitment is unveiled. Enjoy unexpected twists and a heartwarming resolution that touches on loyalty, duty, and societal expectations.

For this performance you may drive up and park, or there is a bus that is offered. The bus cost is $23 per person roundtrip (does not include opera ticket). The bus leaves at 10:00 am from Glendale and at 10:45 am from Lakewood. For driving, you may park close to the opera at a reserved parking lot (The Teller Lot) adjacent to the Opera House at $17 per car per performance, or there is free parking at various places in Central City, but you will have to walk to the opera house.  Free covered parking is available at Century Casino, located about one block down the hill from the opera house. Note: Last year, all members drove up, since it is a short and pretty drive.

If you are interested, there is also a Free Pre-performance Talk 45 minutes prior to the main stage performance. Join a member of the artistic staff for a free, short opera preview 45 minutes prior to each performance at the Williams Stables Theatre (just across Eureka Street from the Opera House). Seating is limited and it is first come, first served. (Note: last year, seats got filled quickly.)

Ticket prices are in 4 categories, depending on how close to the stage you want to sit. They include the following :

Seat A – $89.60

Seat B – $74.40

Seat C – $56.80

Seat D – $24.80 Only a few left

Sue Janssen has requested your RSVP by Friday, March 15. She will then purchase the tickets. Afterwards, she will request reimbursement from all those who have requested tickets.
