Two milestone events (5 to 65+ years ago)

Human Spaceflight:

1962 – Convair division of GD awarded a contract to build the Little Joe II vehicles to launch Apollo suborbital spacecraft tests

2009 – LAUNCH: STS-125 (Atlantis), LC39A, KSC – 7 person crew; LM Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission 4 (last servicing mission). Crew: Scott Allman, Gregory Johnson, Michael Good, Megan McArthur, John Grunsfeld, Mike Massimino, Andrew Feustel

Military and Classified Programs:

1982 – LAUNCH: Classified mission, MM Titan IIID, SLC4E, VAFB

2000 – LAUNCH: LM GPSIIR-4 (SVN50), Delta 7925-9.1, LC17A, CCAFS – MILESTONE: 25 years ago. 

Exploration and Interplanetary Programs:

Earth-Monitoring and Civil Weather Satellite programs:

NONE

Commercial Programs:

NONE

Test, ICBM, FBM programs:

1962 – LAUNCH: Lockheed Polaris A2, SSBN609, ETR

1970 – LAUNCH (6): Lockheed Polaris A3, SSBN657, ETR – MILESTONE: 55 years ago

1971 – LAUNCH (2): Lockheed Poseidon C3, SSBN631, ETR

1989 – LAUNCH FAILURE: MM Small ICBM launched, TP-09, VAFB

Other:

1949 – President Truman signs a bill passed by Congress to create a missile test range at Cape Canaveral, Florida

The photos today are from the STS-125 mission.  This mission was the last Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission in 2009. The photos include the launch, the crew and HST in the cargo bay.  This was actually the fifth servicing mission as the third mission was divided into two separate missions (3A and 3B).  Photo Credits: NASA.
