The photos today are of NOAA-19 spacecraft after the major handling incident in the factory in 2003 and its launch in 2009 15 years ago. NOAA-19 (N’) is still in operation. Launch photo credit: NASA.
Here’s the caption for the factory photo:
NOAA-19, designated NOAA-N’ (NOAA-N Prime) prior to launch, is the last of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s POES series of weather satellites (which is scheduled to be replaced by the next-generation NPOESS series). The satellite suffered an accident prior to launch which resulted in it falling off its clean room mounting, resulting in significant damage. After being repaired, NOAA-19 was launched on 6 February 2009. Photo Credit: Bill Ingalls/NASA.
