Three milestone events (5 to 65+ years ago)

Human Spaceflight:

1970 – Teams of Martin Marietta/McDonnell Douglas and North American Rockwell/General Dynamics make their preliminary proposals under Shuttle Phase B development

2000 – LAUNCH: STS-97 (Endeavour), LC39A, KSC – 5 person crew, ISS assembly (Photovoltaic Array Assembly).  Crew: Brent Jett, Michael Bloomfield, Joseph Tanner, Marc Garneau (Canadian Space Agency), Carlos Noriega 

Military and Classified Programs:

1963 – Development phase of MM Titan III program begins

1990 – UPPER STAGE FAILURE: GE DMSP S-10 (5D-2 F5) GD Atlas E, SLC3W, VAFB – broken nozzle on AKM led to lower than desired orbit

Exploration and Interplanetary Programs:

Earth-Monitoring and Civil Weather Satellite programs:

Test, ICBM, FBM programs:

1955 – LAUNCH: Lockheed X-17, LC3, CCAFS

1959 – Martin Titan II program authorized by USAF Headquarters – MILESTONE: 65 years ago

1961 – LAUNCH: Lockheed Polaris A2, LC29A, CCAFS

1961 – LAUNCH: GD Atlas E, LC13, CCAFS

1964 – 565th squadron of GD Atlas D’s deactivated at Warren AFB, Wyoming – MILESTONE: 60 years ago

1964 – LAUNCH: GD Atlas D, 576-A1, VAFB – MILESTONE: 60 years ago

1994 – LAUNCH: Lockheed Trident D-5, SSBN740, ETR – MILESTONE: 30 years ago

Other:

2006 – United Launch Alliance (ULA) begins operations, merging LM Atlas vehicles and Boeing Delta vehicles.
