Human Spaceflight:

1995 – LAUNCH: STS-69 (Endeavour), LC39A, KSC – 5 person crew, deployed and retrieved Wake Shield Facility, other science payloads.  Crew: David Walker, Kenneth Cockrell, James Voss, James Newman, Michael Gernhardt.

Earth-Monitoring and Civil Weather Satellite programs:

Test, ICBM, FBM programs:

1961 – LAUNCH: Martin Titan I, LC20, CCAFS

1962 – The first GD Atlas F missile squadron (550th) is turned over to SAC at Schilling AFB, Kansas

1976 – LAUNCH (2): Lockheed Polaris A3, SSBN609, ETR

1979 – President Carter authorizes full-scale engineering development of a basing mode for Missile X (Peacekeeper) – MILESTONE: 45 years ago

1994 – LAUNCH: MM Peacekeeper, LF05, VAFB – MILESTONE: 30 years ago

The photos today are of the STS-69 mission, which launched on this day in 1995.  The photos include the launch, the crew and the deployment of the Wake Shield facility.  This facility would allow the growth of thin films in a near-perfect vacuum in the wake of a spacecraft.  Photo Credits: NASA.
