1972 – MM Mark IV Monorail enters service, Walt Disney World – Pink

The photo today is an example of a Mark IV Monorail; this photo is from Wikipedia and was released to public domain (no restrictions on usage) by author Knotslanding.  Martin Marietta in Orlando built 10 of the 12 monorails for Walt DIsney World as the first generation monorail used at the theme park area.  Here are the specifications for the monorail (from Wikipedia):

Period of service: 1971 to 1991

Length: 5 cars: 171 feet, 6 cars: 201 feet

Width: 8 feet 10 inches

Height: 11 feet 7 inches (6 feet 6 inches above monorail beam)

Weight: Maximum gross weight (6 cars) 145,100 pounds

Passenger capacity: 6 cars 244 seated

Energy consumption per passenger mile: 0.14 KWH
