The photos today are from two missions. First, there is the launch of the Clementine lunar orbiter on Titan II in 1994 (30 years ago) and an image from the star tracker on Clementine of the Moon and Venus. Clementine tested deep space sensors and instruments for the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization in partnership with NASA.
Second, there is a photo of the closed Aeroshell for Mars Rover Opportunity (built by LM). MER Opportunity landed on Mars 20 years ago today and a photo is included showing the complete traverse of Mars by this remarkable rover. “Oppy” last contacted NASA/JPL on June 18, 2018, operating for over 14 years and traveling a total of 28.06 miles.
